General



1. A positive and true attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results. I am aware that positive people attract others while negative repels. We have to be strong and courageous and know that we can do anything we put our mind to.  If somebody puts us down or criticizes us, we just keep on believing in ourselves and turn it into something positive. Once we replace negative thoughts with positive ones, we will start having amazing positive results

2. Scanning through few imp research and analysis papers on Talent Management and Army Officers Promotion of different Armies around the globe, [few of which i attached below] helped me to draw a deduction that any discussion regarding the Army’s approach to talent management often produces the wailing and gnashing of teeth akin to a Wagnerian opera as a deluge of ideas struggle to find a balance point, crafting a promotion system that retains the best talent while also allowing additional time for those officers who need to grow professionally. An Army research and study revealed that only 6 percent of surveyed officers believe the Army does a good job of retaining the best leaders. While civil firms continue to innovate new approaches to talent management. On the other hand, the Army is unable to become a 'camouflaged version of Google or Facebook' as long as it sustains an industrial approach to officer promotions that is inadequate for talent management and retention. Same is the case with our army like many other Armies around the globe.





Story Of An Army Officer



3. The story of a very close friend Major Sayedur Rahman,psc,EME from 26th BMA L/C, who is profoundly familiar as an extraordinary, outstanding and remarkable officer who surely possess the best leadership, management and verified character qualities and capabilities. We all are aware of his astounding and amazing spiritual wisdom and knowledge (Besides Professional Knowledge Like BUET Engr, Army Officer and So Many Other Qualifications) that he acquired on 'HOLY QURAN' as he started carrying out detail research and analysis on THE SAME approx 2/3 years before and started teaching others.



4.COULD ANY OF US DO THAT? NOT SURPRISINGLY! IF YES - THE BEST OF BEST. Let us judge ourselves/ our knowledge at our own through answering the fol questions as per Holy Quran so as to see where we are:


Ques 1: Who Created Almighty God?

Ques 2: Why God Created Human Being and The Universe?

Ques 3: What God Had Been Doing Before Creating This Universe?

Ques 4: How, When and Why This Universe was Created?

Ques 5: Is the Holy Quran Almighty God's Word?

Ques 6: What are the descriptions of "Prophecy Of Prophet Muhammad" in other religions?

Ques 7: Why Almighty God Created the Disabled People?

Ques 8: Why Almighty God Created Human Being Knowing Fully Well That Most of the Human Being Will Go to Hell?

Ques 9: Why Almighty God has Created Different Types of People?

Ques 10: How Much Powerful we Human Being Are?


5. Like These, Many Related and Logical Questions are There in Our Mind that are Needed to be Answered. There are the Most Authentic and Wonderful Answers of All These Questions in HOLY QURAN Which Any Logical, Scientific and Intelligent People Will be Able to Understand Very Easily for Sure. Let us Have an Honest Soul Search to Study and Know the Answers of These Questions. We Have Studied So Much in Our Life in the Army? But Most of Us will not be Able to Answer the questions.


NOTE: I AM PREPARING AN ARTICLE ANSWERING ALL THE QUESTIONS INCLUDING SOME MORE CRITICAL QUESTIONS. ALL ANSWERS WILL BE FROM HOLY QURAN. ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS US ALL.



Allah Almighty said about Quran: “This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqoon [the pious]” (Quran, 2:2)


  The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said - 'The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it to others' [Al-Bukhari].

6. Major Syeed is amongst the very few most talented officers of our Army that has to be and must be counted. May be that's the point did not favour him. Losing such attired and talented  officer is a definite loss for our Army though Army, most likely, won't feel. But It's the best opportunity for him to prove his worth as he will be able to work in wider perspectives throughout this planet that would not be possible, most likely, if he would stay in Army. Whatever Almighty God Does is the Best For the Human Being.



7. Let's all of us try to Be Undeniably Good - THE BEST HUMAN BEING!



8. This officer was not promoted and/ or put 'below the zone' in Army parlance and had to leave Bangladesh Army! The only cause I could found out that I stated and enumerated in the conclusion part of my this write up.

9. This vignettes - and countless others’ similar experience - show how Our Army’s current promotion system is not optimized for maximum efficiency when it comes to talent management. The Army should rapidly assess and where warranted advance, those individuals who demonstrate a uniquely high degree of acumen. These abundant and artful positive adjectives that can be used after the name of this officer need advanced and able and wonderful mind to put them into good use.





10.  If the Army trusts its battalion and brigade commanders to lead soldiers in war, there is no reason why it should not also expect them to fairly manage the talent within their formations to make the best army to fight better to win. No system is perfect and there will always be commanders who reward the wrong kind of behavior but that does not detract from the advantages of relying upon the chain of command to develop leaders rather than remaining permanently wedded to an inefficient system that fails to put the right officers in the right places.


 

11. Its exclusively my opinion that a simple change in promotion board system could go a long way towards retaining the talent our Army needs. Clearly, the Army is unable to offer the same incentives that the private sector uses to prevent top performers from gravitating to a competitor. However, the Army is not totally without options for better talent retention. By slightly altering its promotion system to prioritize professional accomplishments, our Army would stand a better chance of advancing and keeping its best  talented officers.

12] MILITARY BRAIN DRAIN. In his recent book Bleeding Talent, Tim Kane joins a growing chorus of serving and former junior officers to deliver a wake-up call to today’s military leadership in the face of a major drawdown. Their message: If you ignore the expectations of today’s young, combat-experienced leaders as you shrink the force, your most talented officers will exit, stage left. The military bureaucracy’s response? "Good Riddance".

Losing Talent



13. The military services today are losing talent. Bright and capable officers are leaving Army in sizable numbers, shifting their lives from combat and camouflage to corporate attire. The military must always shed leaders since there is only so much room to move up. But it is essential to shed the right people and not to lose too many of those with the brightest prospects or the most innovative and talented minds. The military needs to know just who is going out the door, and why? I am certain as i have learned many reviews and research studies of different countries around the world on the subject, I like to inform an amazing fact that if there is a true survey - there will be too less a percentage (less than 10%)will agree that "the current military personnel system of our BD Army does a good job retaining the best talented officers/ leaders”.




14. Warfare is a highly complex business and the side that intends to prevail must bring every advantage into what could become an existential fight. Brainpower and talent matter. Which citizens the military attracts, what cognitive and leadership qualities they possess and how many of them stay for a career are issues of strategic importance to the nation’s security. Our Army has to be in a competition for talent like the other armies around the globe. The best and brightest officers need to be put in high demand for the better future of our beloved BD Army so as to leave a better country with best force for future generations.

Challenges With the Current System


15. Military career paths are governed by a set of highly structured processes that rarely allow any deviations. Promotions, for example, are governed by immutable statutory rules. But now there are no 35 year old generals or admirals, no military options to mirror such young officers. Now Battalions are commanded by officers with about 17 to 18 years of service. That's quite a sufficient time to be matured, learned and knowledgeable.

16. Full and correct initiative is needed to search, find, get and keep the best talent in the military for the better Force of the Future that should begin in earnest. Talented officers of our Army brought the name and fame for our country serving in different important appointments in foreign assignments/ missions. In this connection, I like to recollect proudly my explicit memories with our present Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army who served as the Military Advisor to Force Commander as a Lt Col in UNMIS Force HQ, Sudan - that way, i feel myself lucky and proud as it was possible on my part to know and learn the amazing best qualities and capabilities from him.

Humble Submission




17. I know Commissioned officers tend to understand when their career has reached its maximum trajectory. In the words of one of my former colleague - not everyone in this business is going to become the Chief of Staff of the Army. I like to say that the current system is not fundamentally broken. And yet neither is it fully optimized to serve the BD Army’s needs. It promotes good people; however, it does so much too slowly. In a financially constrained environment, the Army needs to attempt to mirror the lean effectiveness of successful civilian companies, which take care the talents for the greater self of their organization.

18. We hope and pray, a 21st Century talent management system would be better across the board - facilitating efficient management and advancing officers ready to contribute more to the Army. Our seniors should unequivocally emphasize that the top priority would be to recruit and retain the talented officers into the Defense Department under any circumstances, like the other Armies around the world. They should drive change to build what we call the force of the future: the military and the broader Defense Department that we need to serve and defend our country in the years to come.

Conclusion

19. No human being is empowered to decide fate of any other human being. We must firmly believe that Almighty Allah (glorified and exalted be He) had a plan for us before we were born, and He still has a plan for us. Almighty Allah's plan for us is necessary and glorious. Almighty Allah has a flexible plan for each human being that allows that person to benefit the world with his/her unique talents. This is in fact the Islamic view of al Qadar or predestination. There is no doubt that Almighty Allah has decreed everything that happens in the universe from the beginning of time to the end, and that Allah has written it all in al Lawh al Mahfooz (the Book of Decrees).


“Know you not that Almighty Allah knows all that is in the heaven and on the earth? Verily, it is (all) in the Book (Al‑Lawh Al‑Mahfooz). Verily, that is easy for Almighty Allah” [Quran, al-Hajj 22:70]



20. So we can draw the deduction that the life decision of any human being is destined by Almighty Allah for the best of ourselves, not and no way any human being. We, human being, being too small are unable to decide fate of any human being for sure. If we possess faith in Almighty God - we must have to believe this concept, no other alternative. But we act like fools - if we are promoted or not promoted, we give the credit and discredit to human being. So unfortunate we are!
